# Empty and error states
For the given screen or feature, produce a state matrix:
| State | Trigger | What the user sees | Copy | Primary action |
Cover: first-use empty, no-results, loading (skeleton vs spinner, with timing rules), partial data, validation error, server error, permission denied, offline, success, and long-content overflow.
Principles: explain what happened, keep user input, offer a clear way forward, avoid blame or error codes without help, use calm tone. Add recovery options (retry, undo, contact support) and which events should be logged.More UX Design skills
